Well for those of you who know me, you might have heard that I have a little bit of a Pride and Prejudice problem… And for those of you on Facebook, you also might have heard that instead of a glamorous day at home vacuuming and washing my floors, I opted to head to the Allentown Art Museum for the last day of the Fashion in Film exhibition.

OK with that preface, you can now understand how this exhibition was absolute candy for me with gorgeous artifacts of beautiful movies I have loved to watch over and over again. Here’s the laundry list of loveliness: Elizabeth, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, HAMLET!!!!! (yes, my favorite Hamlet directed by Kenneth Branagh), Gosford Park, Portrait of a Lady, Titanic, Howard’s End, Room with a View, Evita, Dangerous Liaisons, and last but not least….Pride and Prejudice!!!
These were 32 garments dressed in beautiful tucks, laces, beads & embellishments, layers, trains, and trims. It took everything in me to refrain from touching the pieces. I have done that before in museums and most famously in Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s house in Glasgow, Scotland. I almost had to sacrifice my fingers before leaving his residence. So knowing I would like to hold onto my fingertips a little bit longer, I kept them in my pockets and ate it all up with my eyes.
I know vacuuming sounds glamorous however this was a far more glamorous way to spend an afternoon. Now I am off for a glorious afternoon in my office to grade but I will just imagine it’s my salon where I write beautiful letters to my loved ones far away in perfect and gorgeous calligraphy while maintaining perfect posture (and over looking perfectly manicured English gardens from my sprawling estate). A girl can dream, can’t she?
