Ok first and foremost… The Toshiba Satellite Laptop has kicked the bucket. I now operate completely from the wifi center. This, after burning out the battery charger… UGH!
Today I am feeling much more human! I spent yesterday at the studio and walking around… just rying to take it easy because of being sick. Last night it was early to bed with me because I have just been feeling less than normal BUT to catch you up…
The other night the Barcelona soccer team won it´s thrid championship making it a triple crown title. They played Manchester. We watched that on tv with what seems to be the rest of Spain as I could hear people cheering in other apartments and on the street when a goal was made. We had it on mute… Anyway, it was a 2-0 win making everyone here very happy.
Afterwards, Sergio was on TV with a segment about his Huesca installation. Although I again did not understand the language, the show was very nice and well produced. They have a thing about interviewing people and just concentrating on their eyes…hhmmmmmm.
Like I said, yesterday was spent at the studio and I was very happy to report that I took the bus home all by myself not getting lost at all. After my wifi center date, I was expected at an opening at the art school where Paco, Olga and Fernando were showing. I unfortunately got lost and ended up god knows where. I did however buy myself a Horchata all by myself with much confusion. I did however understand them when they asked if I was from Texas- GOD NO!! I had to correct them staing how true to my east coast roots I am. So I then made my way back home to a disappointed Sergio because I did not find my way… I will try again tonight to at least see the exhibit. Wish me luck!
Today I got up feeling like a new person! I slept last night only waking up once which is an improvement. We got up and were off to see an exhibit of a well known regional potter. I found the textures remarkable and again the exhibition space was just gorgeous. The exhibit was called Touch Me emphasizing the human mark. The clay is local clay which had a grainy surface… so interesting.
And then we made out way to the radio station where Sergio and I did an interview. This is the largest radio station for the entire country. Juan explained that it has a reported 2 million listeners however the show were were on is locally supported for the Aragon region so our show had 250,000 listeners. I guess not bad of a debut for me! The radio host was very sweet and tried to ask me questions in broken but very understandable Ingles. Sergio translated for me and as I was nervous I think he was able to cover me quite well. Juan said during the show, the board operators got a phone call and said he had to go because he wanted to hear if he could understand the American. Haha…. it seems everyone here likes to keep up on their Ingles as much as possible.
I was speaking about why I am here in Zaragoza. One of the reasons is to support Sergio and Juan´s art center project in which we have a huge event tomorrow (I will be presenting Banana Facotry as a success story). Their project is going well however there is a movement to turn their building into a Science Center instead of an Art center. The radio announcer asked if I thought that was a good idea and I emphatically said NO! Apparently that wasn´t the PC thing to do but what can I do; I´m passionate about the arts. Anyway, I´m expecting a hit to be put out on me…
Afterwards I had a nice relaxing lunch at Juan´s with some red wine, pasta and clam sauce, strawberries, pastries and coffee…. and some Elvis Costello. When I told Juan the pastry was ridiculous- both Sergio and Juan looked at me funny. I had to explain that is a good thing where apparently here in Spain that is a very very bad comment- Oops.
Anyway, this weekend will be a hectic one… I won´t be able to post but Monday I will have a full report on Sergio´s mother´s paella; the Art Center Presentation/Event/Performance; and a day in the Pirennees. Can´t wait!
