This morning I dashed off to the studio after shorting out the power in the entire flat with my battery recharger. It’s taking a little bit to get settled in there. I’m not around my “stuff” and there certainly is no dainty pink chaise lounge to sit about and reflect on what I’m doing (but that’s ok… like at home, I’m working on the floor anyway).
Sergio has been filming me to create somewhat of a documentary of my stay here which I think will be kinda funny to see when this whole trip is said and done. I just know how I am and my work tends to evolve as I move through it. I’m so excited to see what happens with it!
BUT working was cut short to spontaneously dash off and meet with an art representative from
(as I write this, I am watching Spanish television and I have no idea what this is but I’m watching an Elvis impersonator do “Suspicious Minds”… jumpsuit and all. It is completely surreal)
Anyway, after that we ran back home for lunch to have more traditional Spanish fare. Today I had “Morcilla” which is a sausage like thing (kind of) made entirely from the pig. It is stuffed with pig’s blood, rice and nuts (or “newts” as Sergio pronounces them in Ingles and I have to pause a bit for it to resonate what he means). OK, so I know it sounds kinda gross but it was good but a little heavy. It even has a little bit of a spiced sweetness to it and he simply prepared it sliced and seared from a frying pan. One thing is for sure, I am eating quite well here (and walking it off!). I *super* excited for Sergio’s mom’s very own Paella on Saturday and I will be sure to have a full report for you.
So after lunch I went out for a walk and was super excited when I ordered again for myself at a local pub where I was hoping to pick up wifi (pronounced here as “wee fee”). I only ordered a coffee with milk and sugar but I was able to get the point across and she understood and I understood and all was right with the world! So the rest of the day was spent just wandering about, thinking about what I’m doing in the studio and prepping for a radio interview that I’m doing on Friday on the National Public Radio here. Wow-y wow wow!
